The Starfall Im Reading app is a part of Starfall's free Learn-to-Read sequence and is designed to help children transition from learning to read to reading to learn. This app focuses on developing comprehension and reading fluency in beginning and advancing readers.
The app features a selection of activities from Starfall.com, including plays, fiction/nonfiction stories, comics, folk tales, Greek myths, and Chinese fables. The stories in this app use a controlled vocabulary set, consisting of words that are most frequently encountered in print. By presenting these words in sentences rather than isolation, the app helps young readers make meaningful associations with each word and commit them to memory.
To model fluent reading, the app includes an AutoRead feature that reads the stories aloud with proper intonation, expression, inflection, and rate. Users can also choose to disable AutoRead once their child is able to read independently.
